Curtis is the daughter of Carmencita Ojales, a Filipina born in Bolinao Pangasinan, and James Ernest Curtis Smith, an Australian attorney. Her birthplace was Yarrawonga which is located in Victoria, Australia. Her father was married to Ojales when she was a teenager in the year 1982. The younger sister of Jasmine, who is an actor was her father. Clare was a sister-in-law on their father's side. She passed away when she was just four months of age in 2007.
